Plans, limits & credits

CustomerHero charges a flat plan fee plus AI credits for usage. This page covers what each plan includes, how credits work, and what to do when you hit a limit.

Plans at a glance

The full feature matrix and current pricing live on the pricing page. The headline limits:

Other limits scale with the plan: data sources, actions, macros, webhook subscriptions, audit-log retention, and SSO connections. See the pricing page for the full table.

How credits work

Every AI operation deducts from your monthly credit balance. Credits reset on the first of each calendar month. Typical costs:

  • Chatbot reply — 1 credit (Balanced/Accurate presets) or 3 credits (Detailed preset)
  • Action call — 1 credit per outbound API call the bot makes
  • AI inbox tools (draft reply, summarize, categorize, rewrite tone) — 1 credit each
  • Data ingestion — 5 credits per URL page, 3 per document, 2 per text block, 1 per Q&A pair

Live usage is visible at Settings → Billing. Each conversation shows the credit cost in its timeline so you can audit any spike.

Auto-reload & monthly cap

On paid plans you can buy a credit pack at any time, or turn on auto-reload so we top up automatically before you run out. Configure both under Settings → Billing → Credits:

  • Auto-reload amount — 500, 2,000, or 10,000 credits. The reload triggers when the balance falls below 20% of this amount and charges your default payment method off-session.
  • Monthly cap — optional ceiling on how much auto-reload can spend in a single calendar month. Set to 0 for no cap.

The cap applies to auto-reload only — you can still buy a one-off pack manually after hitting it.

Hitting a limit (HTTP 402)

When a request would push you past a plan limit or your credit balance, the API responds with HTTP 402 and a structured body that tells your client what to do:

{
  "error": "Plan limit reached",
  "code": "chatbot_limit",
  "currentPlan": "starter",
  "upgradeTo": "pro"
}

The dashboard maps every 402 to an upgrade dialog with a one-click checkout. If you're integrating the API yourself, surface the code field — it's stable and tells you which limit was hit so you can show the right call to action. The current codes:

  • chatbot_limit, data_source_limit, team_member_limit, channel_limit, action_limit — plan-tier limits, fixed by upgrading
  • credit_limit — out of monthly credits or the auto-reload cap. On paid plans, offer a credit top-up; on free, prompt to upgrade

Invoices & receipts

Every charge — subscription renewals, credit packs, auto-reloads — generates a receipt available under Settings → Billing → Invoices. Set the org's billing email on the same page to have receipts sent automatically. Invoices include your VAT/Tax ID if you've configured one.
